Fundamentals of Animation & Design Principles
This introductory module sets the groundwork for your animation journey. Students are introduced to the core principles of animation, including the 12 fundamental rules such as squash and stretch, timing, anticipation, staging, and follow-through. You’ll study the evolution of animation from traditional hand-drawn techniques to today’s cutting-edge digital workflows. In addition, this module focuses on understanding visual communication, design balance, movement, and composition.
Drawing, Anatomy & Storyboarding Techniques
In this module, students improve their manual drawing skills, essential even in digital animation. You will study basic human and animal anatomy, gesture drawing, poses, expressions, and proportions. The focus is on improving observation and creative visualization. You will also learn storyboarding, a critical pre-production skill where you sketch out your animation frame by frame, like a comic strip, to plan out scenes and camera angles. This helps in visualizing storytelling, scene transitions, and emotion through poses.
2D Animation with Adobe Animate & Toon Boom Harmony
This module introduces students to 2D digital animation, where you'll work on characters, backgrounds, and animated scenes using industry-standard software such as Adobe Animate and Toon Boom Harmony. Students will work on frame-by-frame animation, keyframing, onion skinning, and classic tweening techniques. This includes walk cycles, lip-syncing, eye movements, and mood expressions. You will animate short 2D scenes, advertisements, and explainer video sequences with full character and environment development.
3D Animation – Autodesk Maya & Blender
This comprehensive module focuses on 3D animation production, starting with modeling simple objects and progressing to complex character rigs. You will learn polygonal modeling, NURBS modeling, texturing, UV mapping, and rigging techniques using Autodesk Maya and Blender. Key concepts include skeleton systems, inverse kinematics, weight painting, and blend shapes for facial expressions. You’ll also animate character movements like walking, running, and jumping, and apply camera movements, lighting setups, and rendering techniques to complete realistic 3D scenes.
Visual Effects (VFX), Motion Graphics & Compositing
This module explores the powerful combination of animation and VFX. Using software such as Adobe After Effects, Cinema 4D, and Premiere Pro, you’ll learn compositing, green screen (chroma key), motion tracking, and dynamic simulations. You’ll design logo animations, title sequences, and motion graphic transitions that are widely used in film, gaming, and advertising. You'll also explore particle systems, environmental effects like fire, water, and smoke, and integrating animation with live-action footage to create believable visual effects.
Sound Design, Editing & Portfolio Development
In this final stage, students focus on the post-production process. You will learn how to add and sync dialogue, background scores, and sound effects to animation clips. This also includes basic audio editing and mixing using tools like Adobe Audition and Premiere Pro. The module culminates in the creation of a professional animation portfolio, which includes your best 2D and 3D projects, VFX work, character designs, and storyboards. You will also design a demo reel that can be presented to animation studios, production houses, or freelance clients to kickstart your career.
